Picking a ReefControl controller

Every ReefControl setup starts with the controller itself. Red Sea offers it as the ReefControl Lite, the ReefControl Pro and the ReefControl Pro DLX Kit, and each model supports a different amount of add-on hardware. Since probes, power bars and modules all connect back to the controller, choose that piece first and confirm on its product page what it will run.

Which ReefSense probe does what

• Temperature: the baseline reading every controlled aquarium needs.
• Salinity and temperature: salinity tracked automatically instead of only when you test by hand.
• pH and temperature: worth having on a reef with a calcium reactor or kalkwasser dosing.
• ORP: for hobbyists using ozone, since an ORP reading can turn an ozonizer on and off through a Power 8 bar.

Each ReefSense probe keeps its own calibration data, which means a calibrated probe can be moved to a different compatible controller and keep working without recalibrating for the move.

Switched power and other modules

• Power 8 and Power 8 Deluxe bars let probe readings control plug-in equipment such as heaters, cooling fans and ozonizers.
• The ATO module handles top-off directly from supported controllers, with a digital level sensor and DC pump of its own.
• The 4-port expander adds room for more ReefSense devices when the controller's built-in ports are used up.
• A leak detector on the stand floor catches water from a failed fitting.
• Probe holders and a titanium grounding probe keep the sump tidy and grounded.

All ReefControl settings live in Red Sea's ReefBeat app, including semi-automatic probe calibration, alert ranges, notifications, reading history graphs and sensor-based equipment control.

For a new build, a controller with temperature and pH probes handles the core monitoring; add salinity and ORP once the aquarium is established.
