Cheap Cooling That Works

A fan aimed across the surface cools by driving evaporation. It costs a fraction of a chiller, needs no plumbing and draws very little power — good for a few degrees on a nano or a mid-size system, which usually covers a summer spike without buying a compressor.

Evaporative cooling brings two consequences worth planning for: top-off demand rises, so an auto top-off earns its keep once a fan is running, and salinity climbs in a marine tank if evaporated water is not replaced.
