Where Every Parameter Starts

Salt mix sets the baseline. Everything you test, dose and correct afterward is measured from whatever the mix delivered, so changing brands mid-stream changes the starting point — which is usually why a stable tank suddenly reads differently after a water change.

Choosing a Mix

  • Standard marine mixes — formulated for fish-only and general marine systems.
  • Enhanced reef formulas — higher calcium, alkalinity and magnesium, aimed at stony coral growth.
  • Box sizes — 50 through 200 gallon mixes, covering most home systems.
  • Buckets — resealable and easier to keep dry in a humid fishroom.

Mix with RO or RO/DI water rather than tap, and give it time to finish. Salt has to dissolve completely and come up to temperature before it meets livestock; used too early it can read high on alkalinity and drift down as it settles. Keep the container closed between uses, because salt mix draws moisture from the air and a clumped bucket doses unevenly. Test a new batch before trusting it. Questions? Email info@jlaquatics.com.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
