Bacteria Need Somewhere to Live

The whole function of biological media is surface area: somewhere for nitrifying bacteria to colonise and convert ammonia and nitrite. Usable internal surface area and good flow through the media are what determine how much bacterial load it can carry.

Types Stocked

• Ceramic blocks, plates and spheres — high internal porosity, suited to sumps and larger canister filters.
• Sintered glass and ceramic granules — compact media for canister trays and nano setups.
• Structured rock-style media — doubles as aquascaping while providing biological filtration.
• Deep-pore media — internal low-oxygen zones that also support denitrification.
