The Line Between the Stages

An RO system is only as reliable as the tubing joining its stages and reservoir. Polyethylene line holds pressure, resists kinking and pushes directly into quick-connect fittings with no clamps or cement, which is why nearly every RO unit is plumbed with it.

Color-code the runs. One color for feed, one for product water and one for waste turns a tangle under the cabinet into something readable at a glance — which matters at the point a fitting starts weeping. Cut square with a tubing cutter rather than scissors, since an angled cut is the usual cause of a dripping push-fit joint. Leave a little slack at each fitting too, because line pulled taut works itself out of a collet over time while a relaxed run stays put.
