Collection: Calcium Reactors

The basic idea

Carbonate media will not dissolve at reef pH, so the reactor lowers pH inside a sealed chamber by injecting CO2. Under those conditions the media goes into solution and the water leaving the chamber carries calcium and carbonate with it. Output is set as a drip rate, which is what makes a reactor a continuous supply rather than a scheduled dose.

Before ordering

Budget for the parts around the reactor as well: a CO2 cylinder, a regulator with a needle valve, carbonate media to charge the chamber, and a pH probe where the chamber is to be monitored directly. Individual product pages show which bubble counters, probe holders and fittings are supplied, as this varies by range. Once running, raise the effluent gradually and test alkalinity between changes instead of setting a final rate straight away.
