Control Phosphate, Control Algae

Persistent algae and sluggish coral growth are usually a phosphate problem. Chemical media removes it directly rather than waiting on water changes, and running it in a reactor keeps the media tumbling so all of it stays in play.

Choosing Reactor Media

• Iron-based phosphate removers (GFO) — high capacity and widely used on reefs; runs best in a fluidized reactor.
• Aluminum-based removers — a different chemistry for binding phosphate.
• Biopellets — a solid carbon source that drives bacterial export of both nitrate and phosphate, in a tumbling reactor.
• Blended and specialty media — combined binders, magnesium media and coarse reactor substrate.

Reduce phosphate slowly. A sudden drop can stress corals acclimated to higher levels — start with a partial charge and build up. Questions? Email info@jlaquatics.com.
