Where Ozone Fits

Ozone oxidizes dissolved organics, and it is normally introduced through a skimmer or a purpose-built reactor rather than into the display. It suits an established system that is already being measured regularly. Output rate, contact time and safe operating limits are set by the manufacturer, and the manual for the specific unit is the reference that matters.

Handling and Setup

• Tie output to an ORP reading rather than running the unit continuously and hoping. ORP controllers and probes are listed with the testing equipment.
• Run the return through carbon so nothing residual reaches livestock.
• Supply dry air, and confirm the tubing and fittings downstream are ozone-rated. The manual lists what each generator expects.
• Give it airflow. A sealed cabinet is the wrong home for an ozone generator, and it should be sited out of reach.

Work through the manual before the first run. Ozone is one of the few pieces of aquarium equipment where an incorrect assumption costs livestock.
