A Clean Cut Heals Faster

That is the case for using the right tool rather than whatever is in the drawer. Cutter jaws shear a branch instead of crushing it, a scalpel parts soft tissue without tearing, and a diamond blade separates a plating or encrusting colony from its base without destroying either piece.

Picking a Tool

  • Stony coral cutters — plier-style, in 5.5, 6 and 8 inch lengths, for branching corals.
  • Black oxide cutters — a corrosion-resistant finish for tools in regular saltwater use.
  • Soft coral scalpels — plus replacement blades, for leathers, mushrooms and similar tissue.
  • Propagation kits — a cutter bundled with the basics as a starter set.
  • Diamond band saws — bench saws for plating and encrusting corals, with replacement blades.
  • Acrylic rod — 36 inch lucite stock for shop-built racks and holders.

Rinse and dry tools in fresh water immediately after use; saltwater destroys hinges and edges faster than anything else. Use eye protection with a band saw, and work over a tray rather than over the open tank. Saws and blades are special order. Questions? Email info@jlaquatics.com. Ships across the US and Canada.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
