Gryphon AquaSaw C-40 Diamond Band Saw
Precision Coral Fragging with the Gryphon AquaSaw C-40
The Gryphon AquaSaw C-40 Diamond Band Saw is a corrosion-resistant wet band saw designed for efficiently cutting coral skeleton, frag plugs and other hard mineral-based materials. Its narrow diamond-coated blade removes a minimal amount of material while allowing controlled straight, curved and detailed cuts that would be difficult to achieve with conventional coral cutters.
Based on Gryphon's proven C-40 platform, the AquaSaw configuration incorporates stainless steel and hard-anodized metal components suited to wet and saltwater-related applications. The motor is mounted above the cutting area and water reservoir, helping isolate the drive system from the recirculating coolant used during operation.
AquaSaw C-40 Direct-Drive Cutting Performance
- High-speed diamond cutting: The stainless steel diamond-coated blade travels at approximately 40 miles per hour for fast cutting through coral skeleton and other compatible hard materials.
- Direct-drive motor: The 1/3 horsepower DC motor drives the blade without belts or pulleys, reducing the number of moving parts requiring adjustment or maintenance.
- Saltwater-oriented construction: Stainless steel and hard-anodized aluminum components help improve durability in the wet and corrosive environments associated with coral fragging.
- Minimal material loss: The narrow blade creates a thin cutting path, helping preserve valuable coral tissue and skeletal material during frag preparation.
- Large unobstructed work surface: Approximately one square foot of platform area provides room to position coral colonies, rock and fragging material.
- Recirculating water cooling: The integrated reservoir supplies tap water to cool and clean the blade during operation.
- Upper and lower blade guidance: Blade guides above and beneath the table help maintain control and alignment during cutting.
- Semi-automatic blade tensioning: A single adjustment knob simplifies proper blade-tension setup.

C-40 Coral Cutting and Safety Notes
The AquaSaw C-40 is intended for wet cutting of compatible hard materials such as coral skeleton, stone, tile, ceramic and glass. It is not intended for cutting soft materials that may catch, tear or pull into the moving blade.
Use the upper blade guide whenever practical and follow Gryphon's instructions for blade tension, guide positioning and coolant operation. Always wear appropriate eye and face protection, keep hands clear of the moving blade and work in a well-ventilated area. Some corals may release irritating or hazardous substances when cut, so suitable gloves and respiratory protection may also be required.
The standard C-40 uses a 37-inch blade. It is not compatible with the 42-inch blades required by the AquaSaw C-40 Tall or AquaSaw XL.
Gryphon AquaSaw C-40 Directions
Read the complete Gryphon instruction manual before assembly or operation. Position the saw on a stable and level work surface away from aquarium water and electrical splash hazards. Install and tension the blade according to the manufacturer procedure, confirm that both blade guides are properly positioned and fill the coolant reservoir with clean tap water to the specified level.
Before starting the saw, confirm that all covers and guides are installed, the work area is clear and the blade moves freely. Allow the saw to reach operating speed and verify that water is reaching the blade before beginning work. Guide material steadily without forcing it into the blade.
Disconnect the saw from power before changing the blade, adjusting internal components or performing maintenance. Drain and clean the reservoir after use, remove coral residue and rinse saltwater contamination from appropriate surfaces before storage.
