The Case for Running Both

Fluorescent T5 HO tubes throw light across the full width of a tank and soften the shadows that form under branching corals. LED modules bring intensity, adjustable spectrum, and dimming that tubes cannot offer. Putting both above one aquarium is why hybrids remain a fixture on mixed reef systems, where neither technology alone produces the look aquarists are chasing. The costs are a bulkier, pricier fixture and lamps that still go on a replacement schedule.

Points to Settle First

• Confirm the contents of the box. Hybrid frames generally ship alone; the T5 lamps and LED units are separate purchases.
• Verify bracket fit against the LED module you already run or plan to add. Mounting parts are fixture-specific, not interchangeable across every module.
• Take the tank dimension, not the fixture dimension. Rail length is what gets quoted, and it can overhang or come up short of the rim.
• Settle the mounting method early. Hanging above a rimless tank and setting legs on a rim call for different hardware.
