Collection: Reef Octopus Skimmers

What the five range names cover

Classic, Elite, Regal, SRO and the HOB hang-on units are the five names used across this listing. Classic and Elite each hold a small group of sizes, Regal stretches furthest at 150 through 300, and SRO moves to four-digit numbering with the 3000, 5000 and 6000. None of these numbers is a tank capacity. They identify a model, so compare them against the specification of the unit rather than treating them as a volume.

What the suffixes tell you

• INT is the in-sump build, designed to stand within the sump.
• HOB is a hang-on unit fixed to the rear glass, for systems running without a sump.
• EXT, SSS and NWB appear on further builds of the same numbers, which is why the printed code is the reliable identifier.

Working out which size

The bioload a system carries drives skimmer sizing more than water volume does, so a sparsely stocked large aquarium and a densely stocked medium one can end up on the same unit. Available space counts too. An in-sump skimmer has to suit both the footprint and the operating water depth of the chamber it goes into, so take that measurement before deciding between two neighboring sizes.
