Built around JBJ's Commercial Series platform, the DA-500 delivers 6000 BTU of cooling capacity, a titanium Helix heat exchanger, and a remote Auto IC digital LED temperature control system for stable cooling performance in high-demand aquarium environments.
JBJ Arctica 1/2HP Commercial Chiller Overview
The DA-500 1/2HP Commercial Chiller is the entry model in JBJ's commercial chiller lineup, but it is still built for serious heat removal. It is rated for aquariums around 150 gallons under recommended sizing conditions, with a maximum aquarium size rating up to 500 gallons depending on system heat load, ambient temperature, livestock requirements, and desired temperature drop. Sizing and Installation Notes for the JBJ Arctica 1/2HP Commercial Chiller
Chiller sizing depends on total water volume, ambient room temperature, target temperature, lighting, pump heat, equipment heat, cabinet or room ventilation, and livestock temperature requirements. For best performance, place the chiller in a dry, open, well-ventilated location where warm exhaust air can escape. Avoid sealed cabinets, undersized pumps, restricted plumbing, or recirculating warm exhaust air back into the intake side of the chiller.
Directions
Install the chiller on a stable surface in a dry and well-ventilated area. Connect the inlet and outlet using the 1 inch PVC union fittings and a pump that delivers flow within the recommended range after head pressure and plumbing restrictions are considered. Run water through the chiller and inspect all connections for leaks before powering the unit. Set the desired temperature using the digital controller and allow the chiller to cycle normally. Always disconnect power before servicing, keep the condenser area clean, and maintain steady water flow whenever the chiller is operating.

Aquarium Equipment Returns
- All returns and/or exchanges must be made within 14 days of receipt of product.
- Products may only be returned unused, and in original unopened packaging.
- J&L Aquatics reserves the right to charge a non-refundable 20% restocking charge for any/all returned merchandise (excluding exchanges).
- J&L Aquatics will not be responsible for return shipping charges. Original shipping charges are non-refundable. If the item was originally shipped under our free shipping policy, the cost of doing so will be removed from the credit. Before returning/exchanging any goods, we require that you authorize your return with J&L Aquatics. Any items returned without our authorization will be declined.
- In the event that your order is damaged by the carrier, a claim will be filed with the carrier company. Upon approval of the claim by the carrier, your original order will be re-shipped to you at no additional cost. If you wish to return the damaged goods for a refund or credit, the 20% restocking charge will be applied. J&L Aquatics will not be held responsible for any/all shipping delays that may occur from time to time.
