Fluval 407 Canister Filter
The Fluval 407 Canister Filter is the largest model in the Fluval 07 Series, built for freshwater and saltwater aquariums from 50 to 100 US gallons / 150 to 500 L. With a 383 US GPH pump output, 4.2 L basket volume, and expanded vertical pre-filter area, the 407 is designed for aquariums that need serious external filtration capacity without moving into the bulkier FX canister platform.
Large 07 Series Canister for Heavier Systems
The 407 is built for aquariums with higher stocking levels, larger fish, more complex aquascapes, or greater water-polishing needs. It delivers the strongest circulation and largest media volume in the 07 Series while retaining the same user-friendly maintenance features that define the family: AquaStop valves, Lift-Lock clamps, EZ-Lift baskets, vertical pre-filter access, and an easy-grip primer.
407 Canister Filter Power and Usability Features
- Largest 07 Series chamber capacity: The 407 provides a 4.2 L basket volume and 6.0 L total chamber volume for flexible mechanical, chemical, and biological media placement.
- Strong pump and circulation output: 383 US GPH pump output and 245 US GPH filter circulation support larger aquariums with higher filtration demands.
- 1074 cm2 vertical pre-filter: The larger pre-filter area helps capture debris before it reaches the main media stack and improves mechanical performance.
- Quiet efficient operation: Fluval eTEC design and a re-engineered motor help reduce sound and power demand for daily use.
- EZ-Lift basket access: The media stack can be removed with less mess, making scheduled maintenance more approachable.
- AquaStop quick disconnect: The valve assembly allows easier canister removal without uncontrolled hose spill.
- Lift-Lock motorhead clamps: The single-action clamp system provides faster access to the canister interior.
- Vibration control: Enlarged rubber feet help stabilize the canister and reduce vibration transfer inside aquarium cabinetry.

Best Uses for the Fluval 407
The Fluval 407 is ideal for larger freshwater community tanks, planted aquariums with heavier fish loads, goldfish aquariums within appropriate stocking limits, turtle-support systems where compatible, and medium saltwater aquariums that benefit from external media flexibility. It is the right choice when the aquarium needs stronger filtration than a 307 can offer but cabinet space or flow preference makes an FX filter unnecessary.

Setting Up the Fluval 407 Canister Filter
Install the canister below the aquarium, load the included filter media, connect the intake and output assemblies, and prime the filter before plugging it in. Keep the intake clear, avoid sharp hose bends, and service mechanical media regularly so the larger motor and media chamber can maintain strong circulation and efficient filtration.
