Focustronic - Alkalinity Reagent Kit
The Focustronic - Alkalinity Reagent Kit is a two-part reagent refill developed for the Focustronic Mastertronic Essential automated aquarium water tester. Providing approximately 133 alkalinity measurements per kit, these reagents allow reef aquarists to monitor carbonate hardness (dKH), follow changes in coral consumption, and evaluate their existing alkalinity supplementation program without performing each test manually.
Automated dKH Testing for Stable Reef Water Chemistry
Alkalinity is essential to the calcification process used by stony corals and coralline algae. As a reef aquarium matures, increasing coral growth can change alkalinity consumption, making consistent measurement important for maintaining balanced water chemistry. The Mastertronic Essential uses Focustronic's dedicated reagents and automated colourimetric analysis to measure alkalinity and record results through the Focustronic app.
- Approximately 133 tests: Provides an extended supply of reagents for scheduled alkalinity monitoring.
- Designed for Mastertronic Essential: Formulated specifically for Focustronic's multi-parameter automated testing system.
- Measurement accuracy: Manufacturer-specified alkalinity accuracy of approximately ±0.1 dKH with 0.01 dKH resolution.
- Measurement range: Approximately 4.96 to 16.00 dKH, covering common reef aquarium alkalinity conditions.
- Automatic results: Supports measurement history and trend tracking through the Focustronic app.
Compatibility and Alkalinity Testing Limitations
This reagent kit is intended for Mastertronic Essential and is not currently approved for the original Mastertronic. It is also different from the concentrated reagent used by the Focustronic Alkatronic and Alkatronic Professional systems. Mastertronic Essential allows one scheduled alkalinity test per day, and its dKH measurements do not provide automatic alkalinity correction through Dosetronic. Aquarists requiring more frequent alkalinity testing and active correction should use a dedicated Alkatronic system.
Directions
Install Alkalinity Reagent 1 in Mastertronic Essential vial position 6 and Alkalinity Reagent 2 in position 12, following the manufacturer's vial arrangement. Select the Focustronic alkalinity reagent profile in the app and update the filled reagent volumes. Do not mix the two solutions together or exceed the indicated vial fill levels. Schedule alkalinity testing as permitted by the system, monitor remaining reagent quantities, and clean the vials as directed when refilling. Keep the bottles tightly closed when not in use and avoid contamination with other testing chemicals.
What's Included
- Alkalinity Reagent 1 - 50 ml (1.69 US fl oz)
- Alkalinity Reagent 2 - 100 ml (3.38 US fl oz)
- Enough reagents for approximately 133 automated alkalinity tests
