Collection: Skimmers & Filters

Filtration hardware for every tank — protein skimmers, canister, HOB, and sponge filters, reactors, UV sterilizers, and fleece rollers. A skimmer pulls waste out before it decays, and filtration catches the rest.

Choose Your Primary Filter

Every tank needs one main filter doing the heavy lifting, then optional hardware layered on top. What leads depends on the system: reefs run a protein skimmer as the primary, most freshwater tanks lean on a canister or hang-on filter, and small or breeding tanks do fine on a simple sponge.

The Options

  • Protein skimmers — remove dissolved organic waste from saltwater before it decays.
  • Canister and hang-on filters — combine mechanical, biological, and chemical stages in one unit.
  • Sponge and corner filters — safe, gentle biological filtration for fry and nano tanks.
  • Media reactors — drive water through specialized media for precise nutrient control.
  • UV sterilizers and fleece rollers — polish clarity and cut free-floating algae and pathogens.

Match capacity to your bioload rather than nominal tank size, since a heavily stocked tank overwhelms an undersized filter. Layer additional hardware — a reactor or UV — only once your primary filter is dialed in. Questions on a build? Email info@jlaquatics.com.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
