RO and RO/DI water filtration for aquariums — systems, membranes, prefilters, DI resin, and TDS meters for pure water. Without a TDS meter, spent DI resin gives no visible warning.

Why Filter Your Water First

Municipal tap water is treated for people, not fish — it carries chlorine or chloramine, plus nitrate, phosphate, silicate, and hardness minerals that algae love and delicate species don't tolerate. Filtering it to a clean baseline removes a whole class of problems before they start.

How the Stages Work

  • Sediment prefilter — traps grit and particulates that would clog what follows.
  • Carbon prefilter — strips chlorine and chloramine that would otherwise damage the membrane.
  • RO membrane — the core stage, rejecting the vast majority of dissolved solids.
  • DI resin — a final polish that drives total dissolved solids to zero.
  • Meters and fittings — TDS pens, tubing, valves, and adapters to run and monitor the unit.

Replace prefilters and resin on schedule, and let a TDS meter tell you when — a climbing number means a stage is spent. Whether you mix salt, top off, or fill a planted tank, clean water in makes everything downstream easier. Questions on choosing a system? Email info@jlaquatics.com.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
