Why Media Belongs in a Reactor

Granular media left in a mesh bag only treats the water that washes over it, and it channels: flow finds the easiest path and the rest of the charge sits idle. A reactor confines the media in a chamber and pushes the whole flow through it, so the charge works evenly and exhausts predictably. Servicing stays contained to one vessel rather than the whole sump.

Getting Good Service From One

• Set flow to suit the media. A slow tumble is the aim; a violent one abrades the media into fines.
• A dedicated feed pump keeps reactor tuning separate from the rest of the system.
• Keep spare O-rings on hand. They are the first thing to fail and the least expensive part here.
• Replace media to a schedule — spent media adds resistance without doing any work.
