Match the Light to the Life

The right light depends entirely on what lives in the tank. Stony corals need intense, high-PAR output to thrive; planted tanks want a broad growth spectrum; fish-only and refugium setups have far more modest requirements. Buying more light than your inhabitants use just invites algae.

Lighting Types

  • Reef LED — programmable, high-output fixtures for soft corals through demanding SPS.
  • Planted and freshwater LED — full-spectrum lights that drive plant growth and pop fish color.
  • Refugium lighting — targeted lights for cultivating macroalgae in a sump.
  • Mounts and controllers — arms, hangers, and controllers for placement and scheduling.

Dial intensity to your livestock and increase it gradually — corals acclimated too fast under bright light can bleach and recede. A timer or controller keeps the photoperiod consistent day to day. Questions on a lighting plan? Email info@jlaquatics.com.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
