Collection: Hygger LED Lights

Hygger covers budget-friendly aquarium lighting, mostly for freshwater setups. Full spectrum fixtures are offered in six wattages between 9 and 32 watts. Clip-on versions at 18 and 26 watts mount to the rim instead of spanning the tank, useful on rimless aquariums or where a bar fixture cannot sit flat, and the mini clip-ons at 6 and 9 watts are scaled for desktop, betta and nano tanks. Saltwater is covered by one fixture, a dimmable 30 watt marine light. Across the freshwater models wattage is the sizing figure that matters, so start from tank length and depth and treat the choice between bar and clip-on as a question of how your tank is built.

Bar lights, clip-ons and mini clip-ons

Bar fixtures make up the core of the range and span the full wattage ladder, resting across the top of the aquarium. Clip-on models produce the same full spectrum output but fasten to the tank rim, which is the better answer for rimless aquariums, tanks with a lid in place, or shelves where nothing can extend past the glass. Mini clip-ons are the smallest fixtures offered, at 6 and 9 watts, and are built for desktop tanks, betta tanks and nano aquascapes instead of full community aquariums.

One marine option

The freshwater full spectrum fixtures account for nearly the whole range. The dimmable 30 watt marine light is the single exception, and the only one with a spectrum meant for saltwater. For a reef tank that is the fixture to consider; the freshwater models are not built to support photosynthetic corals.

Working out the wattage

  • Wattage rises with both fixture length and output, which makes it the useful sizing number.
  • The smallest wattages match desktop and nano volumes.
  • The largest suit longer or deeper tanks where light has to travel to the substrate.
  • Pricing across the range is tightly grouped, so moving up one step costs little next to replacing a fixture that turns out to be too weak.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
