The Fragging Workflow

Growing your own corals follows a simple sequence: cut a healthy piece, dip it to remove pests, mount it to a base, and let it heal and encrust. Having the right supply for each step makes the difference between a frag that thrives and one that melts.

What Each Step Needs

  • Cutting — bone cutters and coral blades for clean, quick cuts that heal well.
  • Dipping — pest and parasite dips to treat frags before they touch your display.
  • Mounting — cyanoacrylate glue gels plus two-part epoxy for a secure hold.
  • Bases — ceramic and reef-safe plugs, discs, and tiles to mount onto.
  • Holding — magnetic frag racks that park pieces in the light while they recover.

Never skip the dip: a two-minute pest bath is the cheapest way to keep flatworms and nudibranchs out of an established reef. Cut on a clean surface and rinse tools between colonies. Questions on technique? Email info@jlaquatics.com.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
