Focustronic

Collection: Focustronic

Focustronic is a Hong Kong reef equipment maker built around one aim: stable water through testing and dosing that work as a single system. The company started in lighting with the FOCUS-1 and its patented moving light angle, then launched the Alkatronic alkalinity tester in 2016. The Dosetronic dosing station followed, able to adjust its own dosing from Alkatronic results, and the Mastertronic arrived in 2020 to add calcium, magnesium, nitrate and phosphate. Every unit runs from the Focustronic All in One app, so test results and dosing sit on one dashboard. The range here is the testing and dosing side: Alkatronic Professional, Mastertronic Essential, Dosetronic PRO and DC, Tracetronic and the reagent kits that keep the testers running.

Testing and dosing that talk to each other

Every Focustronic device can run standalone, but the line is built so that one unit's readings drive another. A scheduled test reports to the All in One app, and a paired doser recalculates its daily output from that number. Compared with adjusting a dosing pump after a manual test every few days, the result is many small corrections spread across the day, which keeps parameters from drifting.

Automated testers

  • Alkatronic Professional: an automatic alkalinity tester that also keeps alkalinity stable, alone or together with a Dosetronic.
  • Mastertronic Essential: a single unit that measures calcium, magnesium, alkalinity, nitrate and phosphate, along with OLI, a Focustronic index that tracks water yellowing over time.

Dosing stations

  • Dosetronic PRO: five stepper-motor channels that run independently, supporting continuous dosing and automatic water changes using two pumps.
  • Dosetronic DC: five channels driven by compact pumps, intended purely for dosing and compatible with Alkatronic dosing features.
  • Tracetronic: a trace element doser with twelve 40 ml vials that blends each dose with tank water first, then sends it to the tank through one hose on an hourly, daily or weekly schedule.

Reagent kits

Focustronic designs its reagents for the Mastertronic Essential. Individual kits cover calcium, magnesium, nitrate, phosphate and alkalinity, and a full set bundles all five. The Alkatronic uses a separate Alkatronic CONC reagent. Focustronic doesn't list these kits as compatible with the first-generation Mastertronic. Since the Mastertronic Essential can also run on standard third-party reagents, it keeps testing even when a Focustronic kit is empty.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
